I'm an adult skater in my second year of lessons looking for others to talk to. I was delighted to find this community, but it doesn't seem terribly active any more. Anybody looking for an online skating buddy?

Sure, I'd love to chat. Because of lack of time and money, my progress has been excruciatingly slow, but I'm still determined! It'd be nice to have someone to talk to. :)

! Since I got an answer I guess I'll just go ahead and post a little intro in a separate post. I know how the time and money thing goes - hope you're able to get a little skating in anyway. My progress is also excruciatingly slow, but that's mostly because I persist in pursuing hobbies for which I have no natural talent. :-)

This forum is very quiet, alas. Have you (for any value of you!) visited
, which is where many of us hang out? There is also a
UK skating forum
, although I don't go there much (no time!).

I did look at Skating Forums but all the topics I noticed seemed to be oriented to professional and competitive skating. Are there any threads on that forum for recreational skaters?

Oh, it's almost all recreational skaters. Okay, most of us compete now and again, but only at an adult level; there are one or two younger ones, and, of course, a fair few coaches, but I don't think anybody has aspirations to do more than just have fun! And there are one or two who are in learn-to-skate classes, just as there are people with axels and double jumps - the point is, we're all skaters, and we all learn from one another.

Okay, on your recommendation I joined the Skating Forum. Thanks. It certainly can't hurt anything.
However, all the recent threads in the General section seem to be about WATCHING skating, which doesn't much interest me. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong category?

Yes, you are - what you want is the On Ice - Skaters category! That's where the like-minded folks hang out!

Got it! Thanks.
